FIFA will offer more World Cup tickets for sale on Wednesday

FIFA is putting more World Cup tickets on sale after angering some fans by adding new, more expensive categories.

The football governing body announced on Tuesday that it will make more tickets available on Wednesday at 11am EDT (8.30pm IST) for all 104 matches in categories 1, 2 and 3, plus the new «front category» prizes it added this month.

The new category sparked online complaints from fans who said they believed they were being denied better seats in the categories they had purchased tickets for and being assigned less favorable locations.

FIFA put tickets on sale in December at prices ranging from $140 for Category 3 in the first round to $8,680 for the final, then raised prices to as much as $10,990 when sales reopened on April 1.

FIFA did not respond to an April 9 request for comment on the new ticket categories it had added.

Also on Tuesday, The Athletics reported that ticket sales are lagging for the U.S. opener against Paraguay on June 12 in Inglewood, California. According to a document distributed to local organizers on April 10, 40,934 tickets had been purchased for the US-Paraguay match and 50,661 for the Iran-New Zealand match on April 15. FIFA estimates SoFi’s capacity for the World Cup at around 69,650 and notes that this is subject to change.

In FIFA’s December sale, tickets for the US and Paraguay cost $1,120, $1,940 and $2,735, and seats for Iran and New Zealand were $140, $380 and $450.
