Possessions never meant anything to me
I’m not crazy
Well that’s not true I have a backpack (1)
And a bear can(2)
And a tent that I watch almost every night.
That’s right, I have a tent (3)
So what? So what? So what?
I have
a fanny pack(4) full of
Sunscreen, dental floss and medications(5)
where everything important to me
It seems to fall right under my sweatpants (6)
And in my boots (7)
My closest friend merino wool (8)
And my pillowwwww
Support my head (9)
Gives me my e-book to read (10)
That’s me on the side of the trail, digging a hole (11)
The trekking poles are in my hand(12)
Sporting a ziploc full of wipes (13)
That’s me in the hostel with my camera under my chin(14)
Playing with my garmin (15×2)
Singing FarOut comments
That’s me on my back, in my notebook (16)
That’s me in my CCF(17)
That’s me inside my headphones (18)
That’s me inside my sunbrellaaaaaa(19)
That’s me inside my headdress (20)
All my worldly possessions
1. Hyperlite UB40* mountain gear
Relegating Mighty Joe Young (my HMG Junction) to a day pack after ~2700 miles. I upgraded to a cool new Unbound and I’m excited about it. This time I bought the 40L instead of the 55L. I’m going to try to bring my food externally…
2. BEARIKADE EXPEDITION OF WILD IDEAS*
This? Do you mean my seat? More explorations into the unknown here. Excited more than anything to try something new. I can see myself loving the system if I can dial it in.

3. HMG UNBOUND 2*
I realize my BIG 3 will all be Hyperlites! First time using this store, changing it from my Duplex 🤞🤞

4. HMG VERSA
Fanny-packers of the world unite!
5. SELF-TITLED
Starting with a small stick of dermatone for my lips, a small can of dermatone for my face, floss sticks @ 1 per day and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uplifters, downers, screamers, laughers…
6. SAMBOB MICRORNET*
These joggers are the only pants I bring. They will be mainly for sleeping, but if it’s really cold I can also walk in them. And they will look great for city clothes. I also ordered last minute a custom embroidered microgrid hoodie from Sam that he will send me on the trail and I haven’t actually seen it, but I’m sure it’s the best hiking hoodie ever produced.
7. ALTRA LONE PEAK HIKER 3
He has a Rancid tie-dye shirt and wears hiking boots to work. Is he an idiot? No, I’m just confused. Safari doesn’t wear normal shoes. They’re just high level trail runners, everyone calm down.
8. DAMN HARD
Give me 2 purrs. Darned and tufted in the green mountain state. I’m a fan of OG DT. I like to carry 2 pairs so I can change them day to day. The gods of UL punish me.
9. BIG SKY INT. UL LUXURY PILLOW*
I got into this one day and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be one of my favorite pieces of gear. I’m really trying to do everything I can to improve my sleep this time.
10. BOOX PALMA 2*
I thought maybe I would try an ebook instead of carrying real books like I did on the AT. This one seemed like the best when I Googled «smaller ebooks.» I have a case and a screen protector and will carry it in my fanny pack.
11. DEUCE PALETTE #2
Old reliable poopah Scoopah. If you’re going to walk a long trail, you’re going to have to poop. And if you’re going to poop in the country, you’ll want to bury that shit underground. I’m going to bury you underground, Eli.
12. DURSTON ICELINE TREKKING POLES*
Oh, Danny boy, the poles, the poles are trekking. From ravine to ravine and down the mountainside.
13. MY ASS IS IN THE WIPES*
And if you’re lucky, it might take a little hit. This time I’m trying wet wipes. And I’ll pack them all up. Do I think this is the way? There’s only one way to find out!
14. KODAK SHIPPING MACHINE*
This was made for hiking! I’ll try to capture the CDT in a vintage aesthetic using this little guy.
15. FENIX 8 AND INREACH MINI 2*
Rest assured everyone. I can track my miles and you’ll be able to find my battered and broken body DOA.
16. TERM-A-REST NEOLOFT*💀💀💀
Please send help. After two hikes using the incredibly reliable Therm-a-rest accordion pads, I’m giving the inflatables a try. I got the wide XL. I’m really trying to get some good zzz’s out there. Hopefully this damn UNIT can help with that!

17. GOOD NIGHT 1/4″ CCF EVA PAD*
Mountain Laurel Designs. Double the pads, double the fun! This will be good insurance if the big boy shows up. Plus, I can very easily prepare it during lunch and leave it for a quick nap. It conveniently wraps around my bear can to give the Y-strap on my backpack something to bite into as well, keeping everything loud and tight. Batch down the hatches, you know what I’m saying?
18. SHOKZ OPENRUN PRO 2
Drive my bones babyyyy! I live in these things in real life. Along the way they will be surgically implanted into my skull.

19. ZPACKS LOTUS UL UMBRELLA
My friend BATONA, who hiked the CDT on the 24th, said the wind blew his umbrella upside down on day 1 of his NOBO hike, crushing and destroying it, and after that he did the rest of the trail without an umbrella! Ha! Good luck finishing your triple crown this year, BATONA!!!
20. KEFFIYEH*
I wear a traditional Palestinian keffiyeh. Made in Damascus, Syria on a loom. Not entirely sure why this hasn’t caught on yet among desert hikers in North America? Sun protection ✅️ Sand protection ✅️ Wind protection ✅️ And always a comforting reminder of the power of perseverance, resistance, solidarity and survival.✊️✊️✊️
