Last night I decided to camp in a grove of evergreen trees. The wind howled through the night but it hardly affected me. The trees provided sufficient protection from the wind.
Sight after view filled the hike to Grayson Highlands State Park. I passed up multiple opportunities to climb rock piles to get better views. With almost zero bouldering experience, the risk really wasn’t worth it for me. Maybe the guys from New Hampshire got on them along the way.
As advertised, there were ponies throughout the day. They were on the trail twice. I don’t know the etiquette very well, other than the general rule of staying away. The detour was really the only option, especially since one was slowly moving down the trail in my direction. So I slowly walked in a circle around them. I spoke calmly the entire time to make sure they always knew where I was, to avoid scaring them.

From previous photographs I expected the park to be flat. Flat grassland areas were largely found before and after the park. The park itself was predominantly rocky and wooded. Everything was beautiful.
The miles are getting easy and I clocked my 15 at 2:30 despite generous breaks. It irritates me to stop so early, but I know I need it. There are two more days of rehabilitation left.
