Hansi Flick emotional after Barcelona wins La Liga: It was a tough day for me, but I will never forget it

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick took his team to a second consecutive La Liga title with a 2-0 win over Real Madrid on Sunday, just hours after losing his father.

«I will never forget this day. It was difficult to start – my father died. But my team is fantastic, it’s like a family,» Flick told La Liga TV.

The players wore black armbands during the El Clasico as a sign of respect. Flick was visibly emotional on the sidelines as the players held a minute’s silence before kick-off to pay tribute to Flick’s father.

However, the team had something to cheer about when Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres struck in the first half to seal the 2-0 win.

«They gave everything today. I am proud of the fans. It is great to win La Liga in this stadium and in an El Clasico against Real Madrid. It was not easy. Everyone thought we could win this, but Real are a fantastic team. We played very well and scored the goals at the right time,» said Flick.

The German coach must build on the impressive season. Three more wins in the remaining matches could see Barcelona become just the third team to score 100 points in a La Liga season, as well as the first team to win all 19 home games in a single season.
