East Bengal are one of the five teams competing for the Indian Super League (ISL) title this season and will go into the final round against Inter Kashi in Kolkata on Thursday.
The Red and Gold Brigade top the points table, having scored the most goals in the tournament, and have a chance to end the 22-year wait for the men’s national title.
How can East Bengal win the ISL?
East Bengal are level on points with Mohun Bagan Super Giant and lead the standings on goal difference.
If East Bengal want to win the title, these are the possible scenarios:
Scenario 1: East Bengal beats Inter Kashi
East Bengal almost wins. Bagan will have a slim chance of dethroning its rival if it wins against Sporting Club Delhi by a five-goal margin plus East Bengal’s margin of victory over Kashi.
Scenario 2: East Bengal draw against Inter Kashi
East Bengal ends the season with 24 points. To win the title, the following conditions must be met:
-
Bagan drops points against Sporting Club Delhi
-
Mumbai City vs Punjab ends in a draw
-
Jamshedpur FC wins by less than 13 goals against Odisha FC
Scenario 3: East Bengal loses to Inter Kashi
East Bengal is out of the race. Mumbai City will take control immediately.
