Portugal finally secured victory in the 2026 FIFA World Cup as they defeated Uzbekistan 5-0 in their group stage match in Houston, Texas, on Tuesday.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice, while Nuno Mendes, Rafael Leao and an own goal from Abduvohid Nematov saw the UEFA Nations League champions top the group with four points, while previous toppers Colombia were yet to play their second group match against DR Congo.
The 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup will feature a record 48 teams, with the top two teams from each group and the best eight third-placed teams qualifying for the next round, the Round of 32.

Portugal will face Colombia in its final group match. A win in that match will secure Portugal’s place in the next round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
If Portugal draws with Colombia, the results of the other matches could decide the fate of Cristiano Ronaldo and Co.
If Portugal loses to Colombia, it can still qualify as one of the top two teams if Colombia beats DR Congo and the Leopards draw with Uzbekistan.
