AC Monza have been promoted to Italy’s top flight after just one season in Serie B, despite losing 0-2 in the second leg of their play-off match against Catanzaro on Friday.
How did Monza get promoted to Serie A?
After the play-off ended in a draw with an aggregate score of 2–2, Monza were promoted due to their third place in the Serie B stage, which was higher than Catanzaro’s fifth.
Monza was promoted exactly four years after its very first promotion to Serie A in 2022, when it was owned by Silvio Berlusconi.
Who owns Monza now?
Berlusconi, the former Italian prime minister and media mogul who previously owned AC Milan, took over Monza in 2018 when it was playing in Italy’s third tier.
Following relegation to Series B in 2025, Monza was sold to US-based investment company Beckett Layne Ventures.
