India’s dream of qualifying for the World Cup ended with a 0-3 defeat to China in the quarter-finals of the 2026 AFC Under-17 Women’s Asian Cup in China on Monday.
This was the first time that India qualified for the quarter-finals of this tournament. A win would have booked a place in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, to be held in Morocco later this year. However, the host proved too clinical for the Young Tigresses.
Huang Qinyi, Liu Yuxi and Li Qixian scored for the hosts to advance to the semi-finals, where they will meet North Korea, who defeated Thailand 6-0 in another round of 16 final.
Earlier in the tournament, India had beaten Lebanon 4-0 in its final group stage match – the side’s first win in the competition in 21 years.
