Jordan Henderson will miss the rest of the World Cup with an arm injury: reports

England’s Jordan Henderson will be sidelined for the rest of the World Cup, Sky Sports reported on Monday. The midfielder is due to undergo surgery on the bizarre arm injury he suffered during the celebrations following the team’s 3-2 win over Mexico in the round of 16.

Brentford’s experienced midfielder landed awkwardly when he slipped while climbing over a barrier at the Azteca Stadium on Sunday, with video footage showing his forearm buckling.

After leaving the field on a stretcher and receiving oxygen, Henderson was taken to a hospital in Mexico City and did not travel with the rest of Thomas Tuchel’s squad back to England’s training base in Kansas City.

A member of the English medical staff stayed behind with him.

Henderson, 36, was an unused substitute against Mexico but the former Liverpool captain is among the side’s most respected figures and offers leadership, experience and a calming influence.

The English Football Association has made no official statement regarding Henderson’s participation in the remainder of the tournament.
