The Netherlands announced on Monday that defender Jurrier Timber will miss the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup after failing to recover from a groin injury.
The Arsenal full-back had returned after a two-month break to feature in the Champions League final defeat to PSG on May 30.
«The 24-year-old defender has not yet recovered sufficiently from a groin injury to participate in the World Cup in a medically responsible manner. In consultation with the medical staff, it has therefore been decided that Timber will leave the preliminary camp of the national team in New York after the match against Uzbekistan,» said a statement.
Ronald Koeman has called up Lutsharel Geertruida from Sunderland as Timber’s replacement.
The Netherlands is in group F together with Japan, Sweden and Tunisia and starts the campaign against Japan on June 14.
