Amad Diallo has no doubt that “everyone” at Manchester United would love to see Michael Carrick continue as head coach next season.
The 44-year-old former United midfielder returned to Old Trafford as interim boss until the end of the season, shortly after the end of Ruben Amorim’s ill-fated reign in January.
Carrick has seen a huge upturn in the Red Devils’ fortunes and United have qualified for the Champions League with three games to go.
Kobbie Mainoo said the players «want to die for Carrick» after a 3-2 win over Liverpool on Sunday that left United six points clear of its arch-rivals in the Premier League in third place.
However, Carrick’s long-term future at Old Trafford remains in doubt.
“To be honest, it’s not the player who decides who stays here next season, but what I can say is that everyone is happy to have him as manager,” Diallo said. Air sports. “Everyone is with him.
“He is that manager who has a good relationship with every player, so we are very happy to have him as manager and yes, we will be happy to have him as manager next season.”
Diallo has not scored or assisted since Carrick’s appointment, but the manager has still praised the 23-year-old for his work rate and overall impact.
“Even when you have difficult moments, he is there to talk to you, he is there to help you,” Diallo explained.
«I think maybe the biggest change is that the team now has more impact. Just like in the locker room, we are really together.»
“Every mistake is no problem, your mistake is my mistake, so we are a team that doesn’t care if you make a mistake, you go again, so we move forward, we want to win as a team.”
United are next in action on Saturday against mid-table Sunderland.
The match sees Diallo return to the Stadium of Light, where he spent a season on loan in 2022/2023.
«I really enjoyed my time at Sunderland. To be honest, I have nothing bad to say about the club,» said the Ivory Coast international.
“Now I’m one of the big fans because I watch every game when they play, so I’m so happy with what they’ve done this season.”
