Neymar has withdrawn from talks with FC Cincinnati, but is still open to an MLS move

Neymar could become the latest global soccer star to take his talents to MLS, but it is no longer expected to be for FC Cincinnati, The Athletic reported Thursday.

Cincinnati had been courting Neymar on a potential transfer since April, but never made an official offer to the Brazilian legend, who is now reportedly no longer considering Cincinnati as a transfer destination.

According to the report, Neymar became frustrated with how slow the process regarding his potential move to MLS was. However, he reportedly remains open to playing for another MLS club, if it’s the right situation.

Neymar, 34, left Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Scotland for his first appearance against Brazil since 2023. The country’s top scorer in international goals (79) and second all-time in appearances (142) was sidelined with a right calf injury and has been troubled by injuries in recent seasons.

After a spell with Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League, Neymar currently plays for Santos – the very first team he played for in Brazil between 2009 and 2013 – and has scored 15 goals in 37 games since returning in 2025, with his contract expiring with the current season ending in December.

He scored a total of 377 goals in 644 club appearances in 19 seasons.
