Return transfer (Day 45) – The walk

I think last night was the coldest so far on the trail. Who would have thought it would happen in mid-May? I think it was below freezing, because when I woke up, ice covered the outside of my tent.

Late start

I took my time getting ready today and stayed on my quilt to sleep for a long time. Our transportation back to Damascus for the trail days was not scheduled to arrive until noon. And they picked us up at the Fox Creek Trailhead, just 5 miles from the campground. Although it was cold overnight, this morning the sun was shining brightly. It was heating up quickly.

take a walk

Four of us walked together to the gap, talking the entire way. The atmosphere is always fun and happy when we know we are heading into the city. We were particularly excited to attend Trail Days this weekend. Although just a few days ago I might have skipped it. The group I’m with has organized a shuttle service and an Airbnb in Damascus, so I’m on board.

See places of interest

Once we arrived at our accommodation, I immediately began washing clothes and taking a much-needed shower. After resting for a bit, I walked to the city center and took in all the sights. There were tents everywhere, selling art, food, crafts, and of course, equipment. I think every equipment company under the sun was present. It was fun to walk around, I got a lot of free stickers and participated in some raffles. I even walked to the “tent city” to see what I was missing by staying in an Airbnb. I think I’m happy with my choice (haha).

Tomorrow will be day zero and I will have even more time to check everything out. Some hikers are going out tonight and there will definitely be a fun party atmosphere if you’re interested. I stayed and spent the night talking to my husband on the phone; time well spent.
