Last night no one met me at the shelter and it rained until early morning. The trail to the shelter was a creek, so I simply got water to filter instead of going down the steep, slippery trail into the now raging creek. Rough waters were a theme today. I was glad I made the incomplete crossing yesterday before it rained last night.
Leaving the campground I headed quickly north and reached Little Rock Pond. I considered taking a break there but someone was coughing hard in the shelter and I decided to skip it. The pond offered many peaceful views as I walked.

After the pond, the first creek crossing was difficult due to water for hikers. Rather than risk jumping from rock to rock, I simply resigned myself to getting my feet wet for safer footing. Soon after there were two rock gardens where many hikers built many stone cairns. I know this may be one of those incendiary topics, but I appreciated the beauty.

An even more complicated crossing followed the rock gardens of Bully Brook. The creek was high and the crossing was only 200 feet upstream of steep rapids. Again I chose to find the most stable foothold and get my feet wet. The rest of today’s trail was through a low pine forest and fun rock formations.
