Switzerland defeated Canada 2-1 in a thrilling Group B match at BC Vancouver Stadium in Vancouver on Wednesday to take top spot in the standings.
All three goals came in the second period, with Ruben Vargas and Johan Manzambi striking early in the 46th and 57th minutes. Canada pulled one back through Promise David in the 76th minute to put pressure on the Swiss in the final quarter of the match.
With first place on the line, Canada came close in the final minute of stoppage time when Alistair Johnston fired his header from close range into the hands of Gregor Kobel.
