India will look to bounce back from a disappointing Unity Cup campaign when they face Tajikistan in the first of two international friendlies at the Hisor Central Stadium on Friday.
Khalid Jamil’s side lost 0-2 to Jamaica in the semi-finals and 0-1 to Zimbabwe in the third-place play-offs in London, ending the tournament goalless. The matches in Tajikistan provide India with a quick opportunity to respond and build some momentum again in the June international window.
However, India will have to do this with a reformed squad. Ryan Williams has not traveled after suffering a hamstring injury during the Unity Cup, with Parthib Gogoi called up in his place.
The 22-man squad also does not include a single Mohun Bagan Super Giant player, leaving Jamil with several familiar options as he prepares to beat India 2-1 in the CAFA Nations Cup last year, also in Hisor.
