The Generosity of Others – AT Thru Hike by Fox – Day 100

I had a short walk to the parking lot and met up with an old friend, Jim. As I pulled into the parking lot, a guy named Steve opened his vehicle and gave me coffee cake and Gatorade. While we were chatting, Jim texted me to let me know that construction delayed his arrival. Another local offered to take me into town and buy me breakfast!

Dave took me into town and treated me to an egg and cheese bagel with coffee. As we ate, I learned that he had met his son the day before. Dave’s son is hiking the Long Trail. Dave also told me about doing all the New Hampshire 4000s with him growing up. It seems like they have a great relationship.

After thanking Dave and saying goodbye, I headed over to the store for socks. When I finished, Jim arrived. We had a wonderful breakfast, double for me: omelette with 3 eggs and 3 pancakes. I enjoyed catching up. It made my day.

The rain came when I started on the road. With my poncho on, I walked upside down… right into a log on the trail. With a headache, I continued. I looked towards the Peru Peak shelter but it was overflowing. The bridge over the stream was down and the crossing was a bit dangerous. I continued towards Lost Pond Shelter.

Today my only real goal was to meet Jim for lunch. I can say mission accomplished.

  • Breakfast: 3x protein oatmeal
  • Dinner: couscous, raisins, nuts.
  • Snacks: Fig Bar, Nature Valley Protein Bar, Nut Butters
  • Bonus: coffee cake, egg and cheese bagel, pancakes, cheese omelet
  • Days without ramen bomb: 100
  • Today I am grateful for: Jim and the generosity of others.
