It took me 25 days, but I reached the 400 mile mark. It’s very exciting and encouraging. Maybe I can really do this…
Route report
Today was my third day walking to get to Boots Off Hostel. I left early to cover as many miles as I could before it started to rain. My goal was to reach the Moreland Gap shelter.
Today there were two waterfalls. The first was Jones Falls. It was a decent waterfall and only a 0.1 blue glow.
The second was Mountaineer Falls. It wasn’t that impressive, but I had lunch there.

I also passed the Hardcore Falls. This waterfall is named after the Hardcore Trail Crew who perform trail maintenance in the area. Special thanks to that team and others like them!
I passed a couple of miles beyond the shelter and camped stealthily. The site I found was much better than the shelter sites. Additionally, I reduced the number of miles needed to get to Boots Off in the morning.
Thought of the day
I got a private room instead of a bunk bed at Boots Off. Snoring problems both nights in Hot Springs resulted in almost no sleep.
I understand that people can’t help snoring. But at a minimum, they should inform everyone in the bunk room or shelter.
If you know you snore, maybe think about camping or getting a private room. It would be a kind thing to do for everyone else.
people i met
I met Ghost today. I haven’t met many hikers who are faster than me. Ghost is the fastest hiker I’ve ever seen. I had lunch with him. We talked for a while… and then he left. Like a ghost!
Plant of the day
Today’s plant is Bristly Buttercup. This plant is quite common on trails. I’ll see him most days.

bird of the day
The bird of the day is the golden crowned wren. This is a tiny bird that likes conifers. It has a very high pitched song.
