It rained all night, but there were no storms or wind. The inside of my tent was filled with condensation and I packed everything up quickly to keep it dry.
on the hunt
We were camped just a half mile off US 19-E, the road that leads to Roan Mountain, Tennessee. Just a little ways down the road is Mountain Harbor Bed & Breakfast. My friends were interested in stopping there as it is supposed to be the best homemade breakfast on the trail. Unfortunately, things didn’t go well. But they kindly allowed us to charge our devices on their porch while we arranged a shuttle into town.
Our shuttle driver dropped us off at Smoky Mountain Bakers. The food was great, I ordered a vegetable omelet with potato croquettes. They had so many cakes that looked amazing and the coconut macaroons were gluten free! I had some with my chai latte. After eating too much and warming up, we headed out again. Some sweet neighborhood animals greeted us, making the morning that much better. We then began our walk to Redi Mart to resupply. It was a little precarious, but we made it out in one piece.

When we were looking for a ride back to the trail, our previous shuttle driver was at another job. We connected with a lovely shuttle driver named Cathy, who agreed to take us back to the trailhead for free. It was already close to noon, so I decided to make it a short day. My legs also need a rest after walking big miles earlier this week.

Highlights
We passed some interesting sites along the way, including Isaacs Cemetery, which sparked an interesting discussion about belief in the paranormal and supernatural. We also took a short detour to Jones Falls, a picturesque waterfall. Much of the day was also spent observing fallen trees and forest damage. Although I continue to see the damage from Hurricane Helene, the magnitude of its impact still surprises me.

little birds
Tonight we will camp at Mountaineer Falls. The shelter is clean and nice, so I’ll sleep here so my tent can dry. In the back there is a small nest with three little birds. You can hear their little squeaks. After resupply day, I always have too much food. A group of us feasted on a variety of snacks. It was a good day of food.
