…as Tom Petty once sang, it’s the hardest part.
Sigh
Here I sit, looking at my gear, debating where exactly to go for my trial hike (I’m thinking the Virginia Triple Crown).
The time between hikes, or before a big hike, is unique, to say the least. All the research has been done for months. All equipment purchased. All tickets and hotels booked. And now simply… wait. I don’t know how to space out all that stuff. To go slowly. Enjoy the preparation.
But it’s okay. There is also waiting along the way. Waiting for the hot water to boil. Waiting to warm up. Waiting for the sun to rise. Waiting for your first meal in the city. Waiting to see the stars.
I will learn to go slow (a little) and enjoy the wait.
