I think I’ve got my morning trail routine down. First thing is always the coffee in the lobby. Having a nice cup of coffee makes packing in the morning a little easier. I start by choosing my snacks for the day and then put my bag of food in the bottom of the backpack. I undo my sleep system and put it in the middle with my clothes and electronics in a nylofume bag. By then my breakfast is ready and the kitchen setup goes in a side pocket. Lastly, I wrap my tent for the top of my backpack, roll it up, pack it up, and I’m ready to start hiking.
Today we were speeding towards the city. We only had 10 miles and promises of a great lunch on the other side had us rushing. My goal was to arrive at noon, but I arrived at the trailhead at 11 o’clock. Jug and Cool Beans were a little ahead of me and made it into town easily. Straight Up was right behind me, so I waited for him before attempting our first official hitch on the trail. The first car we stuck our thumbs out for stopped and took us into town.

The kind woman who picked us up was a local who was on her way to visit her brother. She is a hiker herself and was happy to help us PCT hikers. Too pretty. He dropped us off just outside town, where we walked past beautiful views of the lake to a restaurant where we met up with Jug, Cool Beans, and Bug.

Santa and Scratch & Sniff needed a place to stay, and our Airbnb had plenty of room, so they joined us for the night. We ordered pizza, watched Twilight, enjoyed the hot tub, and did a ton of laundry. It was a nice, relaxing and quiet evening.

Oh, and I officially have the name of my trail! I wanted to give it a while to try it out, but after hearing others call me by my route name, I know it’s a good fit. I started introducing myself under this name and signed the log book for the first time, so I guess that makes it official.

My route name is Gadget.
