What is the first match of FIFA World Cup 2026?

The 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup kicks off on Thursday, June 11, with 48 teams competing for the coveted prize for the first time ever.

The first match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will kick off between co-hosts Mexico and South Africa, which will be played at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico.

The match starts at 12:30 PM IST, Friday, June 12 (1:00 PM local time).

An interesting point to note about this opening match is that in the 2010 edition the opening match was also between Mexico and the then host country South Africa.

The second match of the 2026 edition is between South Korea and the Czech Republic and starts later on Thursday at Estadio Chivas in Guadalajara, Mexico.
