Qatar will take on co-hosts Canada as both sides eye their first win in the 2026 FIFA World Cup during their group stage match in Vancouver on Thursday.
Chilean referee Cristian Garay has been put in charge of directing the match on the pitch.
Garay has been a referee since 2016 and has been affiliated with FIFA since 2019. In October 2023, he was responsible for refereeing the FIFA World Cup qualifier between Bolivia and Ecuador, in which the latter won 2-1.
The match between Canada and Qatar also marks the end of a twelve-year wait for a Chilean referee to take charge of a World Cup match, with Enrique Osses being the last to do so in 2014.
