The round of 32 between Argentina and Cape Verde will be officiated by Canadian referee Drew Fischer. He has been a FIFA referee since 2015.
The 45-year-old has a wealth of experience and has been a mainstay in Major League Soccer and the Canadian Premier League, most notably as a referee for the 2025 MLS Cup final.
At the global level, the Canadian has refereed in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup and was also a regular video assistant referee for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Fischer made his World Cup official debut earlier in the tournament in the Group I match between France and Iraq and also officiated the Croatia-Ghana match in Group L.
Drew Fischer has played 256 matches throughout his career, showing 855 yellow cards and 27 red cards; an average of 3.34 cards per game.
