Who will Mexico face in the round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup?

Mexico extended its unbeaten run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup without conceding a goal, beating Ecuador 2-0 in their round of 32 match in Mexico City.

First-half goals from Julián Quiñones and Raúl Jiménez put the co-hosts in control, and El Tri saw out the match comfortably, recording their first World Cup knockout win since 1986.

Mexico will take on the winner of the Round of 32 match between England and DR Congo in the Round of 16 in Mexico City on July 5.

The North American country last reached the knockout stages of the World Cup in 2018, but was eliminated 2-0 by Brazil in the round of 16.

Javier Aguirre’s side could again face the five-time champions in the quarter-finals and defending champions Argentina in the semi-finals if the country continues its run.
