Spain will face Cape Verde in its first group match for the 2026 World Cup in Atlanta on Monday. This will be Spain’s seventeenth World Cup appearance, after winning the 2010 edition. Since that iteration, however, they have not progressed beyond the round of 16. This will be Cape Verde’s World Cup debut.
Before the match, Spanish head coach Luis de la Fuente reiterated that his side would not take Cape Verde lightly. He praised Cape Verde’s organization and physical qualities, saying that Cape Verde is «well structured» and has fast, powerful players.
Cape Verde comes into the match with Bubista, a 21-time Cape Verde international, as head coach. Winger Ryan Mendes is likely to captain the side in what could be his 99th appearance for the national team.
However, one wonders whether the weather will play a role in the Group H match.
Will weather and heat have an effect in the 2026 FIFA World Cup match between Spain and Cape Verde?
The match between Spain and Cape Verde will be played at the Atlanta Stadium, also known as the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Georgia, United States. The kick-off is scheduled for 12:00 local time.
