Will there be extra time and penalties if the quarter-final between Spain and Belgium ends in a draw?

Spain and Belgium drew 1-1 after halftime on Friday in their quarter-final at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Los Angeles.

The European champions opened the scoring when Fabian Ruiz found a deflection off Thibaut Courtois and fired the ball into the net. Belgium restored parity just eleven minutes later thanks to a Charles De Ketelaere header.

What happens if Spain versus Belgium ends in a draw after 90 minutes?

If the Spain-Belgium match remains tied after 90 minutes plus injury time, the match will start with 30 minutes of extra time, which will be divided into two halves.

If the winner is not determined even after that, a penalty shootout will decide which team will advance to the semi-finals.
