Mohun Bagan and East Bengal players and staff observed a minute’s silence ahead of their Kolkata Derby in the 2025-26 Indian Super League at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Sunday.
The gesture was in memory of Swapan Sadhan Bose, former president of Mohun Bagan Athletic Club and an ex-Rajya Sabha member, who passed away on Tuesday. He was 78.
The players also wore black armbands to honor his memory.
Swapan Sadhan Bose, popularly known as Tutu Bose, was admitted to a private hospital on Monday due to heart problems. West Bengal Sports Minister Nisith Pramanik and All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Kalyan Chaubey had visited him at the hospital.
Tutu Bose served Mohun Bagan for three decades in various administrative positions, including as secretary and president, and became a name synonymous with green and maroon.
As one of the leading sports administrators in the Kolkata football circuit, Tutu Bose played a crucial role in signing key players for Mohun Bagan between the 1990s and the late 2000s such as Chima Okorie, Krishanu Dey and Monoranjan Bhattacharya.
Outside of football, he was a member of Rajya Sabha from 2005 to 2011, as nominated by the All India Trinamool Congress.
