Jose Mourinho suffered a disappointing return to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, a first half of its own goal Gifting Chelsea a 1-0 win over his new Benfica side in the Champions League.

Chelsea’s Pedro Neto ran the ball to Alejandro Garnacho on the distant pole in the 18th minute, and the Argentinian stretched to turn it over the face of the goal, where the unfortunate Richard Rios could only poke him in his own net.

Chelsea ended the game with 10 men after replacement Joao Pedro was sent deep in the extra time for two yellow cards, but it was a first victory in the competition of this season, albeit a scrappy, for the team of Enzo Maresca, that his first Champions League outing lost in more than two years earlier this month.

Mourinho, who won three league titles in two spells with Chelsea, took the lead over Benfica less than two weeks ago after the side lost its first Champions League match to the Qarabag of Azerbaijan, and the Lisbon side dismissed Bruno Lage.
