Abbosbek Fayzullaev became the first Uzbekistan player to score in a FIFA World Cup match during the Group K match at Azteca Stadium on Wednesday.
Fayzullaev headed from close range in the 60th minute to level the scores after Daniel Munoz had given Colombia the lead in the closing stages of the first half.
The move started when Akmal Mozgovoy played Dostonbek Khamdamov into the penalty area, with the latter doing well to keep the ball in play and cross into the middle.
Active all-time top scorer Eldor Shomurodov shot the ball on the volley, but Colombian goalkeeper Camilo Vargas could only do enough to push the ball onto the left post, after which it went over the goal.
Fayzullaev was in the right place at the right time for an easy finish.
The 22-year-old plays his club football with İstanbul Başakşehir in Turkiye’s top tier and has scored four goals and seven assists in 27 games in all competitions.
