Premier League club Aston Villa will visit Jakarta on August 1 for a friendly against an Indonesian All-Stars side as part of their tour of Asia.
The match will be played at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium before Villa travels to Thailand to take on BG Pathum United FC on August 4.
Villa then heads to Hong Kong to take on Bayern Munich in the inaugural Audi Football Summit on August 7.
Led by Unai Emery, Villa will start their pre-season campaign against Walsall on July 21 before taking on Borussia Mönchengladbach in Germany on August 15, their final warm-up match ahead of the new Premier League season.
Local promoter Sound Rhythm welcomed the club’s visit, saying it would give Indonesian fans the chance to see one of Europe’s leading teams in action.
“We are proud to bring Aston Villa to Jakarta,” Ahmad Satrio, head of marketing communications at Sound Rhythm, said in a statement.
“Aston Villa’s performances this season have made them one of the most exciting and high-profile clubs in European football. We believe Indonesian football fans deserve the chance to experience that excitement firsthand.”
Villa had a successful season last season, finishing fourth in the Premier League and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. The club also lifted the UEFA Europa League title, ending a 30-year wait for major silverware.
