Forward Folarin Balogun’s brace helped the US to a convincing 4-1 victory over Paraguay in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Group D match at Sofi Stadium in California on Saturday.
USA took the lead after just seven minutes when Paraguayan midfielder Damian Bobadilla accidentally kicked the ball into his own net while trying to stop a Weston McKennie cutback.
The early goal helped the co-host put continued pressure on his South American opponent. Paraguay failed to deal with the threat posed by the US attacking unit and conceded two against Balogun before half-time.

Star striker Cristian Pulisic was sent off at half-time by coach Mauricio Pochettino and The Stars and Stripes were unable to add to their goal tally in the second 45.
Substitute Mauricio reduced the lead by one in the 74th minute, but Paraguay could not muster enough to force an unlikely comeback.
Giovanni Reyna added a fourth goal seconds before the end to confirm the three points for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
USA temporarily move to the top of Group D ahead of Turkiye’s match against Australia late on Saturday evening (Sunday morning IST).
