FIFA World Cup 2026: Larin equalizer earns Canada point; Player Ratings Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina

Canadian forward Cyle Larin came off the bench to grab a 1-1 draw for his side against Bosnia and Herzegovina in a hectic Group B opener on Friday that long looked like it would end in defeat for the World Cup co-hosts.

Canada was without skipper Alphonso Davies, who is recovering from a hamstring injury.

Bosnia took the lead in the 21st minute when Jovo Lukic sent home a corner for his first international goal, but Canada thundered forward and should have equalized through Richie Laryea in the 53rd minute before Bosnian Sead Kolasinac miraculously lifted his shot off the crossbar to safety.

The Canadians continued to attack relentlessly, but despite creating plenty of chances, they lacked precision in their finishing as the Bosnians dealt with a succession of crosses and appeared to be heading for a narrow victory.

However, Larin had other ideas when introduced in the 76th minute and made an immediate impact, turning in the penalty area and firing a deflected strike less than three minutes later to equalize and delight the home crowd.
