First Cabin – Fox AT Thru Hike – Day 109

I woke up today with no nausea or other symptoms. Like yesterday, I started drinking 12 cups of coffee. Today I took Digs’ place to make the pancakes and in no time Murder Leg and I made pancakes and eggs. We ate our share and saved some for Cowboy and Pipsqueak.

Yes, that is the way.

It took us until 8am to get to the trailhead. The ferry delivered us on time, we just had that extra splash of blue flame to get us back on the road. The climb up Little Haystack was steady, without many obstacles. It also took me above most of the heat. When I reached Mount Lincoln, the wind made for a comfortable hike.

The views from Mount Lincoln, along the Franconian Ridge and up to Mount LaFayette are worth the hike. I ate my lunch of cheese and crackers sitting on top of Mount Lincoln, enjoying the wind. As I crossed toward Mt. LaFayette, wisps of dark clouds passed through me. The feeling was strange, just a rush of warm, humid air as the cloud passed.

Leaving the alpine zone I plunged into humid heat to Mount Garfield. A loud, raucous group filled the summit, so I sat on a rock below to cool off a bit. Leaving the summit I faced a more technical descent. The trail followed a stream down a steep rock field. After that, however, I had a leisurely walk to the Galehead cabin.
