Who scored for Bosnia and Herzegovina versus Canada at the 2026 World Cup?

Bosnia and Herzegovina marked its return to the FIFA World Cup in style as Jovo Lukić scored the country’s first goal of the 2026 edition against co-hosts Canada in Toronto.

The 27-year-old headed from a set-piece situation in the 21st minute to give the Bosnians a lead just before the first hydration break, as thousands of visiting fans were moved to tears at Toronto Stadium.

It was also the attacker’s first goal in senior international football.

Who is Jovo Lukic?

Jovo Lukic, born in Doboj in Bosnia and Herzegovina, plays for Universitatea Cluj in Romania’s top flight and has not really been a regular in the first team in recent years.

He received his first call-up to the national team since 2021 for the two pre-World Cup friendlies, and the match against Canada marks his fourth appearance in Bosnian colours.

Lukić grew up in the youth academies of Modriča and Sloga Doboj before making his professional debut for the latter at the age of 17. He played for clubs from Bosnia and Herzegovina until 2024 before moving to Universitatea Craiova in Romania.

In 2025 he moved to the Romanian top team Universitatea Cluj, for which he scored twenty goals in the 2025-2026 season.
